Blake's counts were good enough to start his final High Dose Methotrexate treatment. These treatments take a lot out of him and require us to stay in the hospital for a minimum of 4 days. This is especially difficult for Blake who can't move around freely with the iv attached to his port and Travis, who still has to work and isn't able to get a full nights sleep on the sofa bed.
It is amazing to me that we have both been able to stay with Blake at all times with the exception of the 2 days after Alexia was born. I am so glad to be able to offer this small comfort to Blake.
This treatment will be Blake's last scheduled hospitalization! He will still be hospitalized if he has a temperature of 100.4 or above, but there are no more routine hospitalzations and we hope to continue to avoid fevers!
Once this week of treatment is done we will have only one week left in the Delayed Intensification phase. Then we will be on to the next phase, which will more than likely cause Blake to loose his hair again. This dose of Methotrexate is really hitting Blake hard. He had a whole week off from any chemo prior to this and he was amazingly energetic. As soon as they started the chemo today he was complaining of headaches and was very sleepy. It was shocking how fast his little body ran out of energy.
Blake and Alexia got to spend some time with Ma-ma Corinne tonight while mommy was at her first night back in class.
Blake will continue to have frequent clinic visits during the next phase. We will write more when we know more about it.
